How the math works
The converter turns any amount into a yearly figure, then divides it back out. A year is hours per week × paid weeks per year. With 40 hours and 52 weeks, that is 2,080 hours. The federal government uses a 2,087-hour divisor to average out leap years and extra workdays (OPM). The difference is under 0.4%.
A month is one twelfth of the year, not four weeks. Four weeks would make the year 48 weeks long and understate pay by about 8%.
Benefits: in June 2026, private employers spent $14.07 per hour worked on benefits for every $32.82 in wages, according to the BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation. That is about 43 cents of benefits per dollar of pay, including the employer half of Social Security and Medicare, paid leave and insurance. It is an average across all private jobs. Your offer may be richer or leaner.
