Hours × rate, plus a buffer for the unknowns, plus expenses. Split into deposit and balance.

How the math works

Labor is estimated hours times your hourly rate. The buffer is a percentage of labor that pays for the work you have not thought of yet: extra revision rounds, slow feedback, setup. Expenses are costs you pass through at cost, such as stock photos, fonts, hosting or travel. They are not buffered.

The deposit is a percentage of the total, due before work starts. The balance is due on delivery. The effective hourly rate shows what you earn per estimated hour once the buffer is included. If the project runs over, it falls.

For general information only, based on IRS and SSA figures for tax year 2026. Not tax, legal or financial advice. Your state taxes, deductions and credits will change the result; check with a CPA, an enrolled agent or the IRS.
